Basic Qualifications and

The IT Business Continuity Systems Administrator will be responsible for ensuring business continuity and disaster recovery capabilities through effective provisioning, installation/configuration, and testing of network, systems, and supporting infrastructure. The BCDR Administrator will join a team of System and Network Administrators to drive recovery abilities and manage technical research and development to continuously improve the infrastructure and maintain its efficiency and security.

The BCDR Administrator is expected to have a strong understanding of industry best practices, as well as excellent communication and time management skills. The position should be able to work independently and as part of a team and be comfortable interacting with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.


Scope and Impact:


In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all business continuity and disaster recovery systems adhere to our Cyber Resilience activities and align with IT Governance, Risk Management, and Compliance Programs. To achieve this, they will evaluate the program objectives and identify any shortcomings in information technology processes, controls, and technologies. The team member will then work to design and document effective procedures to address any gaps to achieve compliance with program objectives. Additionally, they will be tasked with designing, implementing, and facilitating key performance monitoring and enhancements for the Cyber Resilience program.

Key Duties:

Engineering and Provisioning:

  • Develop and maintain technical attributes of disaster recovery and business continuity plans, standards, and procedures.
  • Work in conjunction with system and application administrators and business continuity analyst to develop, document, implement, standardize, maintain, test, upgrade, and decommission systems necessary for successful business continuity operations.
  • Execute disaster recovery testing for infrastructure and critical applications to ensure operational requirements are met during a disaster.
  • Research and recommend innovative technology and automation for system and application recovery tasks.
  • Identify approaches that leverage existing resources and provide economies of scale.

Operations and Support:

  • Maintain BCDR systems based on best practices and operational objectives with Business Units.
  • Coordinate with Cyber Resilience team to validate system/data restores and perform DR testing according to business objectives.
  • Perform and monitor daily backup operations, ensuring all data and systems are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.
  • Maintain and improve compliance with internal audit and regulatory agencies.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot issues related to recovery point and time objectives.
  • Repair and recover from hardware / software failures. Coordinate with impacted constituencies.
  • Maintain lifecycle of systems and applications from implementation to decommission.
  • Participate in support and on call rotation.

Maintenance:

  • Apply patches and upgrades for OS, firmware, tools, utilities, and drivers on a regular basis. Configure / add new services as necessary.
  • Document and maintain operational, configuration, and other procedures.
  • Monitor BCDR program performance to support capacity planning.
  • Implement and support ongoing monitoring for system replication between Data Centers
  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required.
  • Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment.

Required Skills, Experience, and Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Extensive industry experience will also be considered in lieu of a degree
  • 5+ years of business continuity and system administration experience including enterprise scale management
  • Hands-on experience managing networking, Active Directory, cloud applications, Linux/Unix, VMware, System Center suite, SAN technologies, and Windows Server
  • Expertise in business continuity and disaster recovery utilizing virtualization and storage technologies
  • Self-starter with critical thinking skills
  • Ability to problem solve and communicate findings to colleagues and management
  • Travel requirements 10%

Desired Skills, Experience, and Education:

  • Industry standard Microsoft and Unix/Linux certifications, a plus
  • Experience administering, maintaining, and enhancing a ransomware mitigation strategy
  • Experience providing consulting services to Fortune / Global 1000 clients and/or domain experience within relevant industry verticals such as Oil and Gas, Utilities, Manufacturing, etc.
